STEM represents Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. We are at STEM Academy in Sunway Geo Avenue for their soft launch by Datuk Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor. We are being brief on what’s STEM education is about, the importance to the children, and there are sessions for some exciting trial activity.
There will be different set of activity on the same module
ie. Space exploration, technology, buildings and mechanics etc. Upon
completion, each child will be required to explain what they had made and why.
Our first activity is mystery bag. This bag includes one challenge,
a few materials and one instruction paper. One of the examples is: You are a
spider. Your Best friend is a bee. You
really wish to fly with your best friend, but you cannot fly. Make something
that can help the spider fly with the materials given. Big J made a hot air
balloon with a balloon, tape, sticks and a bottle cap.
The second activity is space launching mission. This activity’s
mission is to save two peaceful species of aliens that want to share their
advanced technology with us from crash-landing into earth.
You have some paper,
a few marshmallows, a cup, some straws and two big marshmallows. The two big
marshmallows is the aliens, the cup is the spaceship. Make something with the
remaining materials to let the aliens land safely on earth.
In our opinion, STEM education should be applied in school
because STEM education is about problem solving, think out of the box, and
creative thinking which is a critical skill for children nowadays.

Kids love the activity is because it gets them to learn through play.
While just a session is never enough, we will be joining
their school holiday program in coming December called Young Engineers. This
program is happening on Saturdays in December and each week’s activity differs.
